Gorran Haven

Gorran Haven ((コーンウォール語:Porthust))〔(Place-names in the Standard Written Form (SWF) ) : (List of place-names agreed by the MAGA Signage Panel ). Cornish Language Partnership.〕 is a fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall, England, UK. The village lies in a cove between two sandy beaches.〔Ordnance Survey: Landranger map sheet 204 ''Truro & Falmouth'' ISBN 978-0-319-23149-4〕 Vault Beach (also known as Bow beach) is south of Gorran Haven and Great Perhaver Beach is to the north.
Gorran Haven lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park.
Gorran Haven was an ancient fishing harbour; its first pier was built in the 15th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries it became a port handling merchandise brought from Fowey by barges and lighters. The pier was rebuilt in the 1820s and reconstructed in 1888.〔Todd, A. The geologist Charles William Peach worked in the area and there is a plaque to his memory in the village.
